How to Use the Scale Builder
Set Your Ding
The ding is the central note of your handpan. Type a note name (e.g. D3, E3, F3) in the Ding Note field. This is the lowest, deepest tone.
Add Tone Fields
Type a note (e.g. A4, Bb4, C5) in the New Tone field and click + Add. Choose "top" for the playing surface or "bottom" for the underside. Click any tone badge to remove it.
Arrange Positions
Switch to Arrange mode and drag each tone field on the diagram to its correct position. Use the Top/Bottom tabs to arrange both sides. Tones snap inside the shell.
Preview Your Sound
Switch to Play mode and tap any tone field on the diagram to hear it. Use the "Play All" button to hear all notes as an ascending arpeggio.
Name & Submit
Give your scale a name and click Submit. Your scale goes to our team for review. Approved scales become part of the NISH catalogue for the whole community.
Tip: Standard handpans have 8-9 top tones + 1 ding. Mutant handpans can have up to 20+ tones with bottom notes. Use note names like C3, D#4, Gb5 (octave range: D2 to E6).
