Recording handpan at home — microphone and setup tips?

Want to start recording my playing for YouTube and social media. I'm on a budget (under $300 for mic setup). What mics and recording setups do you all use? Any tips for getting that crisp, spacious handpan sound at home?

A pair of small diaphragm condensers in XY or ORTF pattern works beautifully. I use Rode M5s — they're under $200 for the pair and the handpan sounds amazing through them.

Even a decent USB mic like the Zoom H1n placed 30-40cm above the ding works surprisingly well. Start simple, upgrade later when you know what sound you're going for.

Room treatment matters more than mic quality honestly. A blanket behind you and playing in a carpeted room will improve your recordings more than a $500 mic in a tiled bathroom.
